Can I Wear Makeup After Eyelid Surgery? What You Need to Know
Blepharoplasty helps your eyes look refreshed and youthful—but when can you safely return to your normal beauty routine, including makeup?
At Restore Surgical Center in Kelowna, we want our patients to look and feel their best while healing safely. Here’s what you need to know about wearing makeup after eyelid surgery.
When Can I Wear Eye Makeup Again?
⏳ Wait at least 10–14 days before applying makeup near the eyes.
This allows incisions to close, swelling to subside, and sutures (if present) to be removed.
Why the Wait Matters:
- Infection risk: Fresh incisions can be irritated by bacteria on brushes or old makeup.
- Skin sensitivity: The skin around the eyes will be delicate and prone to allergic reactions.
- Disrupting healing: Rubbing to apply or remove makeup can cause trauma to healing tissue.
Tips for Returning to Makeup Safely:
- Use new or sanitized brushes and products
- Choose hypoallergenic and fragrance-free formulas
- Avoid tightlining or applying eyeliner directly on the lash line
- Remove makeup gently with micellar water or non-oily cleansers
- Start light—think mascara and brow filler before going full glam
What About Covering Bruising?
You may use non-comedogenic concealer away from the incision area earlier than eye makeup, with your surgeon’s approval.
At Restore, we’ll provide custom recovery timelines so you can return to your beauty routine confidently—and safely.
