Can I Wear Makeup After Eyelid Surgery? What You Need to Know
After blepharoplasty, many patients are eager to return to their normal routines—including applying makeup. But timing is everything when it comes to post-surgical healing.
Here’s what to keep in mind:
1. Wait at Least 10–14 Days
Most surgeons recommend waiting at least 10–14 days before applying any eye makeup, such as mascara, eyeliner, or eyeshadow. This allows the incision area to seal and initial swelling to reduce.
2. Avoid the Incision Area
Even after two weeks, it’s best to avoid applying any makeup directly over healing incisions. Start by using minimal products near (not on) the eyelid crease or lash line.
3. Use Hypoallergenic & New Products
Discard older makeup and brushes that may harbor bacteria. Choose fresh, hypoallergenic products to reduce risk of irritation or infection.
4. Remove Gently
Use a fragrance-free makeup remover and soft pads. Avoid scrubbing the eye area, and never tug at healing skin.
5. Ask Your Surgeon
Everyone heals differently. Your surgeon may advise different timelines based on your specific procedure and progress.
Taking a cautious, clean approach to makeup after surgery helps protect your results—and your eyes.
